  • KPRC Radio Interview with Dr. Manousso and Doug Pike on Elder Mediation in March 2016.

Family Mediation includes elder care and adult mediation, not just divorce or child custody. It also includes mediation resolution between family members for a variety of issues, ranging from miscommunication to no communication. Our sessions are not therapy, but an hour mediation can make a healthy difference in a quality relationship between and among siblings, cousins, and other family combinations.

Congratulations on seeking out our services. You are in for a quality, confidential experience by a third party neutral or co-neutrals.

All mediation sessions are pre-paid and not scheduled unless all parties have committed financially. The drop down button will show the rate. Each party pays the same rate for half or whole day, unless you agree to a different arrangement.

Once paid and scheduled, there are NO refunds for any reason.

Dr. Barbara Sunderland Manousso Interview

Why choose mediation?
Family dynamics are complicated. They have taken years to evolve and they are further compounded by the transitions inherent in the changing lifestyle, relationships and needs of an elder. Family disputes that have been simmering for years often can obscure the best intentions of all involved. Mediation enables proactive families to have good discussions and opportunities to resolve conflict that potentially could tear them apart financially and emotionally. In mediated family meetings, everyone has the opportunity to privately explore the needs and feelings of all involved and to deal rationally with the problems and issues under discussion outside of a courtroom. The family knows what is best for them and mediation gives them the vehicle to make their own best decisions.
How mediation works for you:
Many families don’t live in Houston. Therefore, we offer the convenience of a phone call. During these phone calls, as an example, one or all of the children or participants can participate in being coached on how to handle the coordination of their family’s dispute. Sometimes, this phone coaching is all that a family needs to begin their conversation. There are no contracts for coaching calls.
Family Mediation:
When a family needs a quality conversation to make decisions that might include the health, well-being, financial management, and end of life decisions of a loved senior, a family mediation is ideal. The mediation can be held at our conference room, your dining room table, an assisted living or nursing facility, or where the senior might reside. The objective is to have the family together and to make decisions that support the relationship of the whole family. We strive for a quality conversation that is assisted by a third party neutral, the mediator. Sometimes co-mediation might be beneficial for you. You only pay the hourly rate assigned, so you get two neutrals for the price of one. You meet as you like; there is never a contract for mediation services. If needed, we can help you find family care experts who can be supportive resources to help you make decisions. As an elder care or family mediator, we work as a team: Your family ~ Community Resources ~ Elder Care Mediator.
What will mediation cost? What will it cost the family if we don't mediate? (This is the real question.)
Mediation is a professional service conducted by mediators who have had hours of training, usually with a minimum of 100 hours of class training by leading trainers in elder care mediation, plus ongoing training in communication skills and content dynamics.  In addition, many of our mediators are mature adults who have dealt with a family senior and the dynamics involved. We know through experience, practice, and course work, your needs are emotionally draining and need to be addressed in a timely manner.

Our prices reflect the diversity of family dynamics and mediation styles that are used under the umbrella of elder care mediation services.

How to begin:
Nationally there is now a network of mediators specializing in elder and adult mediation.  Since families might live and work in different parts of the country, even world, families can be brought together by phone through a conference call, video cam, and by assistance of elder care mediators near you.  Manousso Mediation has trained many of these mediators around the country, so we know the breath and scope of their ability and practice skills.
